For recommended engine oil, see Table 1.

In addition, you need to be sure the oil sump contains the correct amount of oil to operate properly. NOTES The oil sump capacity is 21 ounces or 1-1/4 U.S. Filling Oil Sump Oil Fill Cap/Dipstick If your engine has an oil fill cap/dipstick go to step 1. If your engine does NOT have an oil fill cap/dipstick, see 'II. Oil Fill Cap/Plug' instructions.

Be sure engine is upright and level. Filling Fuel Tank An adult should fuel this engine.

WARNING NEVER allow children to refuel this engine. Gasoline (fuel) vapors are highly flammable and can explode. Fuel vapors can spread and be ignited by a spark or flame many feet away from engine. To prevent injury or death from fuel fires, follow these instructions: 1. Starting Your Engine To avoid serious injury or death, an WARNING WARNING adult should start this engine. Only allow children to start engine if an adult has determined they are experienced and capable of such operation.

If you are unable to start this engine WARNING WARNING after following instructions in this. NOTE DO NOT operate an electric starter for more than 5 seconds each attempt. Push starter button or turn ignition switch key to start engine. When engine starts, release starter button or ignition switch key. If engine fails to start after 3 attempts repeat steps 2 thru 6 and try again.

Primer Bulb and Choke In Temperatures Above 40°F (5°C): Follow instructions in Section A.1. Primer Bulb Only' instructions and Table 3 on page 7. In Temperatures Below 40°F (5°C): 1.

To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, be sure engine is outdoors in a well-ventilated area. If engine fires but does NOT continue to run, move engine throttle control to “FAST” position and start engine. If engine fails to start after 3 attempts in the “FAST” position, move engine throttle control to “CHOKE” position and start engine.

When starting a cold engine, push primer bulb firmly 3 times, allowing primer bulb to return completely to orig- inal position between pushes. See Figure 24.

NOTES Be sure to cover vent hole when pressing primer bulb. See Figure 24. Cooler temperatures may require pushing primer bulb firmly 5 times. “CHOKE” position and start engine.

If engine does NOT start after following steps 1 thru 8, contact your Authorized Tecumseh Servicing Dealer. DO NOT attempt to start or troubleshoot this engine in any other way. Stopping Your Engine and Short-Term Storage Stop engine according to equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

The float bowl, float, nozzle, and venturi are nonmetallic, minimizing the corrosion and varnishing problems. Common service areas of the carburetor are contained 'O' RING in the fuel bowl. Place a new gasket on top of the float bowl with the notch on the gasket aligned with the bump on the bowl edge (the gasket will only fit onto the float bowl one way.) Hold the float bowl to the carburetor body and 5/32'. Install air cleaner body over the carburetor using a new gasket. NOTE: The VLV models use a closed loop breather system.
