Why would they? To cover c900s, in other words? Sure, there'll be sections that don't apply to all cars - B engine, 8v H engine, 16v engine; front handbrake, rear handbrake - but once you get away from US manufacturers, this whole 'model year'-centric mentality just doesn't exist. Thats what I suspected. You mentioned the bentley manuel being online somewhere, any suggestions, I wasn't able to find anything after searching for an hour. Apparently this has torrent for the Workshop manuals as well as accessort manuels for everything from the 99-9000, only problem is that it's in swedish.
I scanned in the entire manual transmission Saab Service Manual and it took around 4 hours to do just the one. It's one of the smaller manuals as well.
I'm not sure how many there are for a given model year, but I'd guess it's possibly more than 20 ranging from 1/4 inch thick to 3/4 inch thick usually. That would put one range of model years (say from '81-'85) in a stack around 15 inches tall. They are broken down into groups, and then subdivided into parts of the group. Manuals with numbers in the 0 range deal with technical data and specifications, and there are up to 3 or 4 of those alone. Manuals in the 1 range deal with dealer inspection of new cars, etc. Manuals in the 2 range deal with the engine, engine management, etc.
And there are usually 4 or 5 of those. I think the 3 range is electrical systems with 2 or 3 books.
Manuals in the 4 range deal with the transmissions, of which there are a couple books. The highest I'm aware of is the convertible manuals, which are in the 8 range.

They are also broken into model years, and it is best to have the specific set for your model year. However, some of the information didn't change and you can get by with a mix of years so long as the important changes are addressed or you know the cars well enough to understand the differences. For example, you could use the '85 engine manuals to cover an '87 2.0L engine and cylinder head. The same manuals also provides information regarding the ECU and testing of the engine management system for 16 valves which is also relevant up to '88. If you have an '89, you'd be better off finding a newer version of the same manual since there are more significant changes to both the cylinder head and the engine management. For the Saab Service Manual that deals with brakes, an '87 and earlier manual would be entirely useless on an '88 and newer vehicle. Again, buying as close to your model year as possible would give the most accurate information.

Many of the books that you can find are from dealerships that closed and in many cases that was the last year they were in business, so if they closed in 1989, their books at the latest would only go to the 88 model years. Unfortunately, there have been scans run of these books and been sold as.PDF files, only to find that the scan can't be looked at except to print at a bad scale. I have a pre 87 copy of the automatic book and realize that it will not cover everything for the 88 and later models, but the basic overhaul and truobleshooting will be worth it.

There was a guy in AZ selling a cd with it and a compiliation of several other.pdf files of Saab C900 technical data, history, and information.

It looked to me like he downloaded a lot of the stuff from the Internet and put it together to sell. Of course I guess there's copyright issues in play. Let your conscience be your guide. 'Don't ask - don't tell' seems to work for the U.S.
